The right format of making dua'a (according to The Qur'an n Authentic Sunnah).
1. Before making any dua'a we need to praise ALLAH Subhanu wa Ta'ala and to thank HIM and show gratitude for HIS Limitless Mercy and HIS countless Blessings.
Example is the first 3 verses of suratul Fatihah, Aayatul Kursy.
2. You then follow that by sending Durood on Our Beloved Prophet (Sall ALLAHU alayhi wa sallam) which is
"Allah humma salli ala muhammad wa-ala aali muhammad kama sallaita ala Ibraaheem wa ala aali Ibraheem inna ka hameed um majeed. Allah hummabarik ala muhammad wa ala aali muhammad kamaa baarakta alaa Ibraaheem wa alaa aali Ibraheem inna ka hameed um majeed".
[O ALLAH, exalt the mention of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as YOU exalted the family of Ibrahim. YOU are Praised and Glorious. O ALLAH, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as YOU blessed the family of Ibrahim. YOU are Praised and Glorious.
3. Then ask ALLAH Ta'ala whatever you want and keep in mind the things you ask should be rightful, legal and things that which are permissible & halaal.
4. End your dua'a by another salutation to the Prophet (sall ALLAHU alayhi wa sallam) as above then end your dua'a by Praising ALLAH or say Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Aalamiin.
We ask ALLAH Tabaraka Ta'ala to forgive our sins and accept our dua'a. Aameen.
