Fasting is a Shield

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلی الله عليه وسلم قال الصيام جنة فلا يرفث ولا يجهل وإن امرؤ قاتله أو شاتمه فليقل إني صائم مرتين والذي نفسي بيده لخلوف فم الصائم أطيب عند الله تعالی من ريح المسک يترک طعامه وشرابه وشهوته من أجلي الصيام لي وأنا أجزي به والحسنة بعشر أمثالها

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said, "Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter from the hellfire). So, the person observing fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should tell him twice, 'I am fasting." The Prophet added, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ روزہ ڈھال ہے، اس لئے نہ تو بری بات کرے اور نہ جہالت کی بات کرے اگر کوئی شخص اس سے جھگڑا کرے یا گالی گلوچ کرے تو کہہ دے میں روزہ دار ہوں، دوبار کہہ دے۔(رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا) قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس کے قبضہ میں میری جان ہے کہ روزہ دار کے منہ کی بو اللہ کے نزدیک مشک کی خوشبو سے بہتر ہے وہ کھانا پینا اور اپنی مرغوب چیزوں کو روزوں کی خاطر چھوڑ دیتا ہے اور نیکی دس گنا ملتی ہے اور( اللہ تعالی کا قول) میں اس کا بدلہ دیتا ہوں۔
