Status and Respect

The view of the woman within the Caliphate would reflect her position within Islam. Islam has obliged the man and society at large to view the woman - Muslim and non-Muslim - as an honour to be protected at all times. The Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) commented, “The world and all things in the world are precious but the most precious thing in the world is a virtuous woman.” On another occasion he said, “Fear Allah regarding the woman. Verily you have married them with the trust of Allah and made their bodies lawful with the words of Allah.” The man would therefore be obliged to treat the woman upon this premise of honour and responsibility and not according to his desires.
It is this view that would be built and propagated within the state. No action would be permitted to compromise this. For example, the exploitation of a woman’s beauty for economic or other gain would be absolutely prohibited. This is in clear contrast to capitalist states where profit has reigned over humanity and where the honour of the woman has been given a price tag. There would be zero tolerance to any form of sexual harassment whether verbal, physical, or even by innuendo. Slanderous accusations that harm the reputation of a man and woman alike would be a serious criminal offence punishable under the law. Honour killings by which women are killed upon mere conjecture of guilt by individuals who have adopted the position of judge and executioner would therefore be clearly prohibited.
So what would be the role of women under a Caliphate State whose constitution, canons, principles, and values are based purely upon the Islamic texts? Women would play an active role under the Caliphate to build a state that is not only morally elevated but also economically prosperous and scientifically advanced.
