The All-Forgiving - al-Ghaffar

Photo: [The All-Forgiving - al-Ghaffar] "The All-Forgiving is the One who manifests the beautiful and conceals the ugly," explains Imam al-Ghazali.

The root meaning of forgiving--ghafr--is from covering. Covering not only conceals the ugly but also manifests (the beautiful) and perfects (the potential for good and virtue).

Thus, when we ask Allah to "forgive," we are asking Him to (1) conceal our sins and shortcomings; (2) manifest beautiful actions and states; and (3) perfect our potential as righteous, beloved servants.

This was covered in the final hadith of the 40 Nawawi Explained class at SeekersHub #Toronto. Classes at the Hub: http://www.SeekersHub.org/class -- all classes are free, open, and all are welcome.

The Divine Name "al-Ghaffar" (The All-Forgiving) was also explained in some detail in a past lesson: http://youtu.be/aO0ZUNnQFlc
