Start Everything With Bismillah….

Have you ever heard of a person who had crossed bodies of water over it's surface? Perhaps you have or perhaps you have not, nevertheless, I want to share to you all this fascinating story about a Muslim man who lead an army who crossed the sea, over its surface, for the sake of Jihad feesabilillaah.

Ever heard of Abu 'Ubaidah An-Nufai'i Radiyallahu Anhu? Well, he is the man I am talking about!

He was the leader of the army during the caliphate of 'Umar Ibn Al Khattab Radiyallahu Anhu that was assigned to fight with the enemies of Islaam that encamped on the shore of Dijlah River.

It is reported that one of the companions of that army have narrated: " We reached the Dijlah River, the waters of which were very deep; and an enemy army was encamped on the opposite shore. One of the Muslims said, "In the name of Allaah," and then proceeded to ride with his horse through the water-but actually managed to ride over its surface. Everyone else followed suit; each saying same. Al-Bidayah Wan-Nihayah 6/177,178,295, Dala'ilun-Nubuwwah by Al-Bayhaqi 6/53-54

Looking at them from the opposite shore, the foreign soldiers called out, 'Diwan Diwan (which means 'crazy' in the language of Faris).' By the time we reach the opposite shore, the only item that was lost was a pot that was hanging from the side of a saddle.

The Muslims then fought against the foreign army, soon coming out the battle victorious and wealthier by dint of the large booty they won." The first one who said "In the Name of Allaah" was their leader, Abu 'Ubaidah An-Nufai'i Radiyallahu Anhu, but before he could say "In the name of Allaah" he first looked at the Dijlah River and recited:

"And no person can ever die except by Allaah's Leave at an appointed term."After reciting that he said In the Name of Allaah and crossed the river with his horse.

Moral: what do we realize from this story? The power of putting our trust in Allaah, and the power of saying Bismillaah before doing anything, that we do what we do for His Sake, then we are reminded that Allaah Azza Wa Jall is always there, ready to Help the Believers, that not a single second does He leaves His Believers! Alhamdulillaah. This story is a reminder on why we should always say Bismillaah before doing anything, then putting our trust in Him and see how His Help showers upon us. ALLAHU'AKBAR!

How blessed are we that we are Muslims! ALHAMDULILLAAH!
