5 Practical Tips to Help the Ummah Today

Photo: 5 Practical Tips to Help the Ummah Today

1. Make #dua to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala)
Dua is the believer's strongest weapon. As we are in the last 10 nights of Ramadan, let us all make the most of seeking to attain the Night of Power and unite in dua for the Ummah who are struggling in conflict areas. Pray for your brothers and sisters like you pray for yourself, even harder. Try to imagine what they are going through and sincerely ask Allah to help them & grant them victory.

2. Don't get angry. #Educate instead.
Ranting & swearing on social media is unproductive. Remember, we the Ummah must come forward with a united front that speaks firmly and clearly about the situation our brothers and sisters who are being suppressed are going through. Help our non-Muslim neighbours and colleagues understand the real situation by sharing educational articles or videos that show the truth in a clear way. Avoid spreading anger, racism or hate that only backfire on us as Muslims.

3. #Donate & organise fundraisers
Let's do what we can to help raise money for the Ummah in need. Check in with your local organisation on how you can help with fundraisers, or initiate a fundraiser with your own circle of family and friends. There are many ways to get creative, from having an iftar fundraiser to baking and selling cookies to raise funds, or even doing household chores for the neighbours in exchange for payment that will be donated to charity.

4. Sign petitions or attend peaceful #protests
It may seem like a digital signature on a petition or another protesting face on the streets can't do much to change the situation, but we never know what change we can create unless we try. We must do whatever is in our power to stand up for justice, for Allah SWT has commanded us to do so.

5. Don't give up #hope
This is the most important. If we lose hope, then we've lost faith. If we lose faith, then we've lost everything. Remember the many times Allah SWT brought victory to Muslims even when the odds were seemingly against us -- such as the Battle of Badr -- and let that fill your heart with hope.

So let's take whatever action we can with sincerity, humility and hope -- no matter how insignificant it may seem and may Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) bless us to see the light of victory very very soon inshaAllah.
