Can boys and girls be"just friends?"

Can boys and girls be"just friends?"
I just asked someone this and I got a sideways look followed by the statement"can the pope be a muslim?"
Husband and wife can be friends. Brothers and sisters can be friends BUT there is no concept of this inter-gender friendship that we see in society today. Allah is most knowing of what is best for us and He has forbidden this type of friendship so we must be careful of exposing ourselves to it.
No doubt it is from the footsteps of shaytaan due to what it leads to, Allah orders us"do not follow the footsteps of shaytaan
Everyone is at a different stage of practising Islam. I would encourage my sisters not to display their pictures for their own good. If your heart is filled with imaan you will act accordingly, so if you have weak imaan you have to increase it, and your limbs will automatically follow. Then you will be taking down your pics in no time . I think many of us girls base our self-esteem on what society does- that is, frankly put, the validation of women by men through compliments and'love'. Instead, we can train ourselves to base our self-esteem on the fact that Allaah has created us in the best way, and as long as Allaah loves us, that love is sufficient. Allaah is the Source of Love, not your'future husband'so no point waiting for him. Sometimes you gotta learn it the hard way.
Brothers getting all excited over the profile pictures of sisters with niqab on and a little bit of eye make-up on...I'd love to see their reaction when the niqab is removed and it's a cross-dressing homo dude.
Sometimes, your mind will play tricks and beautify that which you cannot see. But let's control it please brothers? Commenting on a sister's picture saying"Masha'Allah"or something like that really isn't acceptable, especially if you're picture shows you have a beard etc.
Try to be a good ambassador for Islam, if you can't do that then at least don't publicise your sins for everyone else to see.
