SUPERIORITY OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH

SUPERIORITY OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH
Assalamualaykom Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
InshaAllaah the Islamic Month of Dhul Hijjah starts on Thursday, 25 September
The Day of Arafat is expected to fall on or around Friday, October 3
And Eid on Saturday October 4 ((subject to moonsighting. In Sha Allah)
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the Chief of the Messengers, Muhammad.
Indeed it is a great favour and blessing from Allah that He has made for His righteous servants periods of time within which they can increase in good deeds to attain great rewards and one of these opportunistic periods is the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah (the final month of the Islamic Calendar, in which the Hajj is performed).....
The excellence of these ten days have been mentioned in the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
“By the dawn; by the ten nights.” [al-Fajr 89:1-2]
Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujaahid and others of the earlier
and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of
Dhu’l-Hijjah. Ibn Katheer said: “This is the correct opinion.”
(Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/413)
Hadees
FASTING ON Day OF ARAFAH
1 The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:
Prophet (PBUH) was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafa (9th of Dhu'I-Hijja), whereupon he said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.
(Sahih Muslim (Hadees no. 1162), from Aboo Qataadah (radiyallaahu ’anhu)
And 2 Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He revels before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.”sahi Muslim (no. 1348), from ’Aa‘ishah (radiyallaahu ’anhaa).
Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) - rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.”Refer to Jaami’ut-Tirmidhee (3/377).
2 Among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of
Dhu’l-Hijjah, which Allaah has preferred over all the other days
of the year. Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his
father) reported that the
Prophet () said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more
beloved to Allaah than these ten days.” The people
asked, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?” He said,
“Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the
case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and
his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.”
(Reported by al-Bukhaari, 2/457)
Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) also
reported that the Prophet () said:
“There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allaah,
nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the
ten days of Sacrifice.” He was asked, “Not even jihaad
for the sake of Allaah?” He said, “Not even jihaad for
the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went
out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the
cause, and came back with nothing.” (Reported by al-
Daarimi, 1/357; its isnaad is hasan as stated in al-Irwaa’,
3/398)
3 The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace said :
Umm Salama, the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to have said: He who has a sacrificial animal with him whom (he intends) to offer as sacrifice, and he enters the month of Dhu'I-Hijja, he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed until he has sacrificed the animal. (Sahih Muslim, Book #022, Hadith #4873)
4 The Prophet (s.a.w ) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh
(“Subhan-Allaah”), Tahmeed (“Al-hamdu Lillaah”) and
Takbeer (“Allaahu akbar”) during this time. ‘Abdullaah ibn
‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported
that the Prophet () said:“There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and inwhich righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than
these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of
Tahleel (“La ilaaha ill-Allaah”), Takbeer and Tahmeed.(Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that
it is saheeh)
6--->>Fasting the first Nine Days of Dhul-Hijjah is a MUSTHAB
.Fasting nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah is mustahabb. This is indicated by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), as narrated in the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him): “There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah then these ten days – i.e., ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah).” They said: “O Messenger of Allaah, not even jihad for the sake of Allaah?” He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allaah, unless a man goes out himself with his wealth and does not come back with anything (i.e., he expends all his wealth and is martyred).” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 969.
The Prophet () used to fast on the ninth of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Hunaydahibn Khaalid reported from his wife that some of the wives
of the Prophet () said:
“The Prophet () used to fast on the ninth of Dhu’l-
Hijjah, on the day of ‘Aashooraa´, on three days of each
month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of
each month.” (Reported by al-Nisaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu
Dawud; classified by al-Albaani as saheeh in Saheeh Abi
Dawud, 2/462)
Commentary: Imam An-Nawwawee (rahimahullaah) said with reference to fasting the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah,
quote: “It is extremely preferable to do so.”
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal rahimahullaah takes this position and it is authentic. Fasting in the first ten [of Dhul-Hijjah, excluding the 'Eid] is sunnah. Yes.”
--->> Fatwah from Shaikh al-‘Uthaimeen about fasting first Nine Days of Dhul-Hijjah
A questioner asked Shaikh al-‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) the following question:
Question: Oh Shaikh, are there any authentic ahadith that mention fasting the first [nine] days of Dhul-Hijjah?
Answer by Shaikh al-‘Uthaimeen:
quote:
“Fasting the first [nine] of Dhul-Hijjah is from the righteous actions without doubt.
And the Prophet salallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said, “There are not any days in which righteous actions are done that are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days.” They said, “Oh Messenger of Allaah, not even jihad in Allaah’s cause?” He said, “Not even jihad in Allaah’s cause, except for a man who left out with his self and his wealth, and he did not return with either.”
So fasting is included in the general context of this hadith. And there appears a hadith stating that the Messenger of Allaah salallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam used to fast the first ten of Dhul Hijjah, not counting the ‘Eid [in other words, the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah]

The Takbeeraat:
From the day of ‘Arafah (9th of Dhil-Hijjah) up until the ‘Asr prayer on the 13th day of Dhil-Hijjah, after the Salaah, we make the takbeeraat.
Ibn Abee Shaybah reported that ‘Alee (Radiyallaahu ‘anhu) used to make the takbeer beginning after the Fajr prayer on the Day of ‘Arafah, up until after the ‘Asr prayer on the last day of Tashreeq (the 13th day of Dhil-Hijjah) Related by Ibn Abee Shaybah in al-Musannaf (2/1/2). It was authenticated by al-Albaanee in al-lrwaa‘ (31/125). As for the wording of the Takbeer, then there is nothing authentically reported from the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam). Rather, what we find is the
‘Abdullaah bin Mas’ood (Radiyallaahu ‘anhu) used to say: Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallaah, wallaahu akbar, Allaahu Akbar, wa lillaahil-Hamd [Ibn Abee Shaybah with authentic chain ] And Also
Ibn ‘Abbaas (Radiyallaahu ‘anhumaa) used to say: Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, wa lillaahil-Hamd. Allaahu Akbar wa ajalla, Allaahu Akbar ‘alaa ma hadaanaa. [ al-Bayhaqee (3/315) with an authentic chain of narration ]
Shaykhul-lslaam Ibn Taymiyyah - rahimahullaah – said, “All praise be to Allaah. The most correct saying concerning the takbeer - that which the majority of the Salaf (Pious Predecessors), and the Scholars from the Companions and Imaams were upon - is to begin making the takbeer from Fajr (dawn) on the day of ’Arafah, up until the last day of at-Tashreeq (the thirteenth of Dhul-Hijjah), after every Prayer.” {Majmoo’ul-Fataawaa (24/220). However, what seems more correct is not to restrict the takbeeraat to being just after every Prayer, as al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr pointed out in Fathul-Baaree (21/587}
