Man is in constant fear of poverty

Man is in constant fear of poverty. We all dream to live a debt free and financially stable life. Current financial crisis has taken its toll on our society, and no one is secure from its impact. The credit card and the interest based banking system have made our life miserable.

We are investigating various options to increase our income that will help us to lead a financially stable life. Many of us are looking to come out of debt. We do lot of hard work to achieve this dream to live a life of financial stability.

But we miss out something. Surah Waqiah. A surah which we can take close to our heart and make it part of our life . A surah that our beloved messenger (PBUH) promised as “source of wealth and protection against poverty”.

The Prophet(SAW) said, ‘Whoever recites surah al Waqiah at night would never encounter poverty’ [Ibn Sunni 620].

The Prophet(SAW) said, ‘Surah al Waqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children’[Ibn Asakir].

It is narrated from Ibn Katheer: Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, May Allah be pleased with him was suffering from great illness and that was his final moments, mean while Amirul Mu’min Uthman Ghani Radhi Allahu anhu was there to give him a visit. There conversation went like:

Uthman RA: what is your illness?

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, RA: My sins are all the root cause of my pain {illness}.

Uthman RA: what is your desire {final desire?

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, RA: I seek the mercy and blessings of my Lord, Allah azza wa jal.

Uthman RA: may I call a doctor for you?

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, RA: the doctors have made me ill.

Uthman RA: may I send some gift from the Baitul Maal, the government stock?

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, RA: thank you, no need.

Uthman RA: but please let me do that for you. These might help your daughters after you {your death}.

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, RA: Do you think that after my death my daughters going to face poverty and hunger? I don’t think so, because I’ve strictly instructed my daughters to recite Sura Waqiah every night. I’ve heard, Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam saying: one who will recite sura Waqiah every night, will never be needy/poor.

We can easily make this Surah part of our life. It is a very simple thing to do. How much time it takes for a person to read this surah. Hardly few minutes. Compared to the hours of wasted time we daily have, investing few minutes in a great sunnah and a great source of wealth, is something no wise person would ever want to miss.

You too can make that decision today. A simple life changing decision. “From today, before I sleep, I will take few minutes to recite Surah Waqiah”.

The act is simple, the result is immense.
