“Whose friendship does not benefit you, let his enmity not sadden you.”
- Imam Shafi’i (Allah have mercy on him) says, من لم تنفعك صداقته، فلا تغتم بعداوته

A true friend is one who is sincere, has concern for your well-being, always wishes good for you, benefits you especially in terms of your akhirah, advises you with gentleness and wisdom when you make a mistake, assists you when you are in need, reminds you of Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him & give him peace), motivates you to become a better person, and is righteous and pious him/herself.
If you come across friends with such qualities, appreciate them and hold onto them; and if ‘friends’ who do not possess such qualities desert you, don’t cry over them.
