ST VALENTINE DAY BEWARE O MUSLIMS!
People, by nature, like to celebrate and express their happiness and pleasure. For Muslims the two EIDS are occasions where we can do so and for Non-Muslims there are many festivals like Mother’s Day, Christmas, and among which is the famous Valentine’s Day also called the festival of love. It is an innovation by the Christians and is not considered in SHARI’AH. Important symbols of this festival are the exchanging of red roses, sending of greeting cards, exchanging of word of love and parties are even organized. Songs are played and there is mixing of men and women which is not permitted in Islam.
Nowadays, many of Muslims people, especially the youngsters, are following the customs of this festival and are thus committing sins. Valentine’s Day has its origin in the pagan beliefs of the Roman and was considered as spiritual love of idols which they worshipped in the place of ALLAH. ALLAH says in Surah Al-Maaida, Verse 72:
“Whosoever steps in partners in worship with ALLAH, then ALLAH has forbidden Paradise for him and the Fire will be his abode. And for the polytheists and wrongdoers, there are no helpers.
According to the above facts, it can be clearly understood that the ones celebrating this festival are committing shirk and indirectly worshipping idols instead of ALLAH.
Valentine’s Day has no importance in Islam and whoever celebrates it is imitating the non-believers and is thus considered as one of them. This festival is also encouraging romantic love outside the framework of marriage and as a result, people are committing fornication and adultery, with no restraints and restrictions. Consequently, there is a widespread of immorality in the society.
However, Islam encourages the believers to love and care for one another, provided it is done in a legitimate way. But this is meant to be at all times and in any circumstances and not just one day, that is, the Valentine’s Day. Love in Islam is not meant to be between a man and a woman only. Love is for ALLAH, for his MESSENGER, for righteous people and for Islam itself. Love can be between brothers and sisters and so on. Therefore, we must not restrict love to be only between a man and a woman, and to be expressed on a particular day.
A Muslim’s attitude towards this festival must not celebrate it nor must a believer help a non-believer to celebrate it. The festival of love keeps people busy in stupid acts that go against the SHARI’AH and must therefore be discouraged in any possible way.
We, believers, must be proud of our religion and must be strong enough not to be tempted by the non-believers and their customs.
May ALLAH protect us from all kind of temptations and gives us the strengths to tread on the right path.
