April Fool Day... In the Light Of Quran & Hadith:

April Fool Day... In the Light Of Quran & Hadith:
======================================

As April draws near, non believers around the globe celebrate a holiday on the first of the month known as April Fool’s Day. The traditional practice of this day is to play some sort of practical joke on someone and make him the “April Fool”.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar!"
(Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.116 Narrated by Abdullah)

The most popular theory about the origin of April Fools’ Day involves the French calendar reform of the sixteenth century. The theory goes like this: In 1564 CE France reformed its calendar, moving the start of the year from the end of March to January 1. Those who failed to keep up with the change, and stubbornly clung to the old calendar system and continued to celebrate the New Year during the week that fell between March 25 and April 1, had jokes played on them. Pranksters would surreptitiously stick paper fish to their backs. The victims of this prank were thus called 'poisson d’Avril', or April fish—which, to this day, remains the French term for April Fools' Day — and so the tradition was born.

Lets Examine in the Light Of Quraan:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 An-Nisaa Verse No.135:
"O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to Allah even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts) lest ye swerve and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice; verily, Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah Verse No.8:
"O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah as witnesses to fair dealing".

‘April fool day’ is a day of celebration and commemoration of the ignorant who glorify the concept of lies and falsehood in the guise of jokes and pranks they play and have a laugh at the expense of their friends. The believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day are sincere well-wishers to their friends and acquaintances alike, and there is absolutely no room for the concept of lies and falsehoods in the deen of Truth called Al-Islam, even for a single moment of one day!

In The Light Of Hadiths:

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, " I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even if its just for the sake of fun'' (Hadith-Abu Dawud).

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah(RA) that the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon) said:"The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted with something, he betrays that trust." (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 33; Muslim, 59)

Hazrat Wasilah reported that the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon) said: "Do not display pleasure at your brothers misfortune."(Hadith-Tirmizi)

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah(RA) said: "They said, 'O Messenger of Allaah, you joke with us.' He said, 'But I only speak the truth. " (Hadith narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1990)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." (Hadith narrated by Ahmad)

It was narrated by Mu'aawiyah ibn Haydah that he heard the Prophet (pbuh) say: 'Woe to the one who talks to make the people laugh and tells lies, woe to him, woe to him." (narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 235. He said: this is a hasan hadeeth. Also narrated by Abu Dawood, 4990).

It was narrated by Asmaa´ bint Yazeed that the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh) said: "It is not permissible to tell lies except in three (cases): when a man speaks to his wife in a way to please her; lying in war; and lying in order to reconcile between people." (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1939)

As Muslims it is our job to avoid imitating the nonbelievers in all aspects of life and this includes celebration of their holidays. No matter how hard you try to please them you will always fail unless you become one of them. And to become one of them is to earn Allah’s wrath. And to earn Allah’s wrath is to condemn oneself. Allah says in the Qur’an, “And never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you until you follow their millat (traditions, ways, religion, etc.).”(Chapter 2, Al-Baqaraa Verse No.122)

May Almighty Allah Forgive Our Sin, and Guide Us to the Right Path.

Aameen Ya Rab Ul Aalameen
