Quran 2:155

Qur'an Verse of the Day!
As for Allah's saying give glad tidings to the patient, it means those who are patient in these trials. The reward of patience cannot be estimated. It is without estimate.
However, the patience needs to be at the first strike of calamity as has been mentioned in a Hadith
Narrated Anas:
The Prophet (pbuh) said,
"The real patience is at the first stroke of a calamity."
[Sahih Bukhari - Book of Funerals - Chapter: Patience is to be observed at the first stroke of a calamity Hadith no. 61]
The patience which makes one miserable and for which one is rewarded immensely is only at the time of the sudden onset of a calamity and the sudden onset of its severity. And bearing this with patience shows the strength of the heart and its steadfastness.
And when the severity of the calamity cools down, then everyone becomes patient. Hence, patience is at the first stroke of a calamity.
Patience is of two types. Patience when obeying the commands of Allah and patience when calamity strikes. And when a person is patient in obeying Allah and is patient in the calamities that befall him, then Allah gives him contentment in respect to that which Allah has destined for him, and the sign of contentment is the Sukoon (peace, calmness) of heart when one is faced with difficulties.
