~Seek protection from the Evil Eye~

~Seek protection from the Evil Eye~
The Arabic word al-‘ayn (translated as the evil eye) refers to when a person harms another with his eye. It starts when the person likes a thing, then his evil feelings affect it, by means of his repeated looking at the object of his jealousy. Allah commanded His prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), to seek refuge with Him from the envier, as He said (interpretation of the meaning):
“And from the evil of the envier when he envies.” - [Surah Al-Falaq 113:5]
Everyone who puts the evil eye on another is envious, but not every envier puts the evil eye on another.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The Evil eye is a fact," and he forbade tattooing. - [Bukhari]
In another hadith noted in Tafsir ibn Kathir it has been reported that Jibril came to the Prophet and said, "Are you suffering from any ailment, O Muhammad'' The Prophet replied,
«نَعَمْ» "Yes."
So Jibril said, "In the Name of Allah, I recite prayer (Ruqyah) over you, from every illness that harms you, from the evil of every envious person and evil eye. May Allah cure you.''
Muslim, Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath.”
The Muslim has to protect himself against the devils among the evil jinn and mankind, by having strong faith in Allah and by putting his trust in Him and seeking refuge with Him and beseeching Him, reciting the prayers for protection narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), reciting al-Mu’awwadhatayn [the last two surahs of the Quran], Surat al-Ikhlas, Surat al-Fatihah, and ayat al-Kursi.
Allah says
“And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes (through hatred).” [Surah Al-Qalam 68:51]
Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and others have said,
(would make you slip) "In order to have some effect on you.'' and (with their eyes) meaning, `they will affect you by looking at you with their eyes (i.e., the evil eye).' This means `they are jealous of you due to their hatred of you, and were it not for Allah's protection of you, defending you against them (then their evil eye would harm you).'
Ya ikhwaan, protect yourselves and protect your families. There is no need in showing off. The approval of the masses is not worth you putting yourself at risk of the evil eye of someone who envies you for what you have, whether it is a material possessions, beautiful skin, a beautiful spouse, or beautiful children. The Evil Eye is real and the truth of its threat is sufficient enough to guard ourselves and our families. Let us be wise. If you love something, protect it and guard it properly, don't make it a target.
