Happiness is in Salah

Photo: Post 1 : The Importance of Salah in our lives !

All Praise is due to Allah, Who has made Salah a relaxation for the believer, a refuge for the fearful, and a guidance. While the Holy Month 'Ramadaan' is just round the corner in sha Allah,Salah is one of the Ibaadah which brings the believer closer to Allah(subhanahu wa ta'ala) and has been made fardh(obligatory) upon us.So,its value and importance gets higher ,so is it's khushoo(devotion).

Salah(prayer) occupies a highest position in the religion of Islam and mentioned as second pillar of Islam. Its performance is the foremost duty of a Muslim after he has brought faith in the Oneness of Allah and the prophethood of his Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). It is a most special act of Divine worship which we are called upon to perform five times daily without fail. The pages of the Quran and Hadith are filled with injunctions which enjoin Salah on us. It is of such supreme importance that it has been described as a pillar and foundation of faith.
Obligation(compulsion) of Salaat(salah)!
Anas bin Malik(radhi Allahu anhu) narrated:
"On the Night of Isra, fifty(50) prayers were made obligatory upon the Prophet. Then it was decreased until it was made five. Then it was called out: 'O Muhammad! Indeed My Word does not change; these five prayers will be recorded for you as fifty.'"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 213.
Importance of salah !

Abu Hurairah (radhi Allahu anhu) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "The first of man's deeds for which he will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection will be Salat. If it is found to be perfect, he will be safe and successful; but if it is incomplete, he will be unfortunate and a loser. If any shortcoming is found in the obligatory Salat, the Glorious and Exalted Rubb will command to see whether His slave has offered any voluntary(nafl) Salat so that the obligatory Salat may be made up by it. Then the rest of his actions will be treated in the same manner."
[At- Tirmidhi]. Riyad as-Salihin Book 9, Hadith 1081.

Thus, performing salaah/salat is obligatory on every Muslim. Five times a day you are obliged to do it and you cannot leave it for any reason. No reason. No excuse. If someone is sick ? The sick person who cannot pray standing, can sit and pray; who cannot pray sitting can pray lying down, one who can’t pray lying down may pray with his eyes. Salah has to be performed.

Why Khushoo(devotion) in salat is required ?

“Khushoo’ in prayer happens when a person empties his heart for it (prayer), and focuses on it to the exclusion of all else, and prefers it to everything else. Only then does he find comfort and joy in it, as the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: ‘… and my joy has been made in salaah.’” (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 5/456. The hadeeth is in Musnad Ahmad, 3/128 and Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3124).
This sweetness to be felt in salat is very essential for every one of us to attain.

In sha Allah,we will focus on this achievement of khushoo that connect us with Allah which will beautify our prayers, in our next series of posts.
