To us, some sins may seem minor.

Photo: To us, some sins may seem minor.
But we must remember that no sin is minor, especially not when one looks at the greatness and magnificence of Allãh.

During the time of the Prophet salAllãhu alayhi wa sallam, Abdullah Ibn Salul, the greatest munaafiq of that time tried his utmost hardest to cause disputes amongst the Muslims. There was one instance where he caused problems between the muhaajireen and the ansaar.
So the ansaar called out ''O Ansaar!" In order to seek help from the ansaar. Whilst the muhaajireen called out "O Muhaajireen!"
This deeply upset the Prophet salAllãhu alayhi wa sallam because this was a practice of the times of jaahiliyyah, when there was much tribalism. It was such an upsetting situation, that it was said that the stench of sin could be smelt. SubhanAllãh!

In another instance, Imam Abu Hanifa RAH was once watching someone perform wudhu. And as he watched the person wash his limbs, he could see the sins falling off. SubhanAllãh this was how high in status he was. Hence from this the maslah was derived that once one uses water to perform wudhu, it becomes impure and can not be used again.

SubhanAllãh such is the power of sin. If the greatest man of all time, the Prophet salAllãhu alayhi wa sallam could smell the stench of sins and ome of the greatest imaams of all time, Imam Abu Hanifa RAH could see the effects of sins on people, then how must we look before Allãh with our endless list of sins?

The sin is not powerful and destructive because of what it is. Rather it is destructive because of the power you give it, when you strive to commit, seek pleasure from it and let it shred your time and effort.

(Note: there is no intention of comparison in the above post, because Allãh knows there is NO comparison. Rather it is an attempt to show examples of the effects of sinning.)
