REVIVE A SUNNAH ⇨ "DO NOT REVILE FEVER"

✦ REVIVE A SUNNAH ⇨ "DO NOT REVILE FEVER" ✦

A person's life goes through alternating periods of happiness and dismay, strength and weakness, wealth and poverty, health and sickness, etc. A true believer is one who maintains a clear level of Iman-faith throughout the worldly fluctuation. He continues to remember Allah Almighty and ascribe the bounties to HIM; and he turns to HIM in submission, asking for relief from His affliction.

☛ Allah Almighty Says in Holy Quran: “HE who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed - and HE is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.” [Surah Al Mulk 67:2].

Most assuredly, HE will reward us all in the hereafter for all the hardships, pains and diseases we suffer, as promised by The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said: “Indeed amazing are the affairs of a believer! They are all for his benefit. If he is granted ease of living he is thankful; and this is best for him. And if he is afflicted with a hardship, he perseveres; and this is best or him.” [Muslim]

☛ Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musaiyyab) and asked her, "What ails you O Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musaiyyab)? You are shivering.'' She replied: "It is a fever, may Allah not bless it!'' He (ﷺ) said to her, "Do not revile fever, for it cleanses out the sins of the sons of Adam in the same way that a furnace removes the dirt of iron.'' [Saheeh Muslim (4676); Riyad-Us-Saliheen, By Imam Nawawi, Ch#322, No. 1726].

From this Hadith, that as diseases are means of expiation of sins, one should not condemn them. More so for the person that they are a part of fate - the Will of Allah. However, there is no harm in taking necessary measures to overcome them because Shari'ah makes it obligatory to do so...

☛ Another hadith, Narrated from Aishah (May Allah Pleased with her), The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Fever is from the heat of the (Hell) Fire, so cool it with water." [Saheeh Al- Bukhari: Book 4: Volume 54: Hadith 485].

☛ Allah Almighty Says in Holy Quran: “And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and thus lose courage and then your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient“. [Surah Al Anfal 8:46].¬

When depriving a person of a certain physical ability, or causing an illness in him/her, Allah Almighty would compensate him/her for it, by bestowing upon him/her some other gift in a greater measure; or at any rate He will more than compensate him/her in the hereafter.

☛ Allah Almighty Says in Holy Quran: “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the rightly guided.” [Surah Al Baqarah 2:155-157].

☛ “May Allah Almighty effect a complete and perfect cure of the illness and infirmity to all suffering brothers and sisters with various diseases around the world and make them the cooling eyes of their parents/relatives and a great blessing to all those people who are associated with them in life! Ameen!”
