The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

“You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you about something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread salaam amongst yourselves.”

Imām Nawawī comments on this hadith: "In this hadith there is great encouragement to spread the salām and offer it to all Muslims, whether you know them or not. The salām is the first means of building friendship and the key to attracting affection. Spreading it and making it common guarantees mutual affection among the Muslims. It also displays their distinguishing feature from that of other religions. In addition, it trains the soul to be humble, to give due attention to humility, and to respect the sanctity of Muslims."
