Narrated Abu Hurairah:

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ، فَدَخَلَ رَجُلٌ فَصَلَّى فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَرَدَّ وَقَالَ " ارْجِعْ فَصَلِّ، فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تُصَلِّ ". فَرَجَعَ يُصَلِّي كَمَا صَلَّى ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ " ارْجِعْ فَصَلِّ فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تُصَلِّ " ثَلاَثًا. فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ مَا أُحْسِنُ غَيْرَهُ فَعَلِّمْنِي. فَقَالَ " إِذَا قُمْتَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ فَكَبِّرْ، ثُمَّ اقْرَأْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، ثُمَّ ارْكَعْ حَتَّى تَطْمَئِنَّ رَاكِعًا، ثُمَّ ارْفَعْ حَتَّى تَعْتَدِلَ قَائِمًا، ثُمَّ اسْجُدْ حَتَّى تَطْمَئِنَّ سَاجِدًا، ثُمَّ ارْفَعْ حَتَّى تَطْمَئِنَّ جَالِسًا، وَافْعَلْ ذَلِكَ فِي صَلاَتِكَ كُلِّهَا

Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) entered the mosque and a person followed him. The man prayed and went to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) returned the greeting and said to him, "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." The man went back prayed in the same way as before, returned and greeted the Prophet who said, "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed." This happened thrice. The man said, "By Him Who sent you with the Truth, I cannot offer the prayer in a better way than this. Please, teach me how to pray." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "When you stand for Prayer say Takbir and then recite from the Holy Qur'an (of what you know by heart) and then bow till you feel at ease. Then raise your head and stand up straight, then prostrate till you feel at ease during your prostration, then sit with calmness till you feel at ease (do not hurry) and do the same in all your prayers.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم (ایک مرتبہ) مسجد میں تشریف لے گئے اسی وقت ایک شخص آیا اور اس نے نماز پڑھی، اس کے بعد نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو سلام کیا، آپ نے سلام کا جواب دیا اور فرمایا کہ جا نماز پڑھ، کیونکہ تو نے نماز نہیں پڑھی۔ وہ لوٹ گیا اور اس نے نماز پڑھی جیسے اس نے پہلے پڑھی، پھر آیا اور نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو سلام کیا، آپ نے فرمایا کہ نماز پڑھ، کیونکہ تو نے نماز نہیں پڑھی۔ (اسی طرح) تین مرتبہ (ہوا) تب وہ بولا کہ اس ذات کی قسم! جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا ہے میں اس سے بہتر ادا نہیں کرسکتا۔ لہٰذا آپ مجھے تعلیم کر دیجئے، آپ نے فرمایا جب تم نماز کے لئے کھڑے ہو تو تکبیر کہو، اس کے بعد جتنا قرآن تم کو یاد ہو اس کو پڑھو، پھر رکوع کرو، یہاں تک کہ رکوع میں اطمینان سے ہو جاؤ، پھر سر اٹھاؤ یہاں تک کہ سیدھے کھڑے ہو جاؤ پھر سجدہ کرو یہاں تک کہ سجدہ میں اطمینان سے ہوجاؤ، پھر سر اٹھاؤ، یہاں تک کہ اطمینان سے بیٹھ جاؤ اور اپنی پوری نماز میں اسی طرح کرو۔

Chapter: Recitation of the Qur'an (Surat Al-Fatiha) is compulsory for the Imam and the followers, at the home and on journey, in all As-Salat (the prayers) whether the recitation is done silently or aloud.
