ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE ON BIRTHDAY

ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE ON BIRTHDAY.
Abu Qatada al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was asked about his fasting. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) felt annoyed. Thereupon 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) said: We are pleased with Allah as the Lord, with Islam as our Code of Life, with Muhammad as the Messenger and with our pledge (to you for willing and cheerful submission) as a (sacred) commitment. He was then asked about perpetual fasting, whereupon he said: He neither fasted nor did he break it, or he did not fast and he did not break it. He was then asked about fasting for two days and breaking one day. He (the Holy Prophet) said: And who has strength enough to do it? He was asked about fasting for a day and breaking for two days, whereupon he said: May Allah bestow upon us strength to do it. He was then asked about fasting for a day and breaking on the other, whereupon he said: That is the fasting of my brother David (peace be upon him). He was then asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said: It was the day on which I was born. on which I was commissioned with prophethood or revelation was sent to me, (and he further) said: Three days' fasting every month and of the whole of Ramadan every year is a perpetual fast. He was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafa (9th of Dhu'I-Hijja), whereupon he said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year. He was asked about fasting on the day of 'Ashura (10th of Muharram), whereupon be said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year. (Imam Muslim said that in this hadith there is a) narration of Imam Shu'ba that he was asked about fasting on Monday and Thursday, but we (Imam Muslim) did not mention Thursday for we found it as an error (in reporting).
Whoever which to celebrate should follow the Sunnah by fasting on wa h day he or she was born. This is a question I wish you help answer. Many of us fast on Monday which happened to be the birth day of the Prophet, why are we not fast on Saturday for the one among us who was born on this day?
COOKING AND HOSTING AS FORM OF CHARITY IN CELEBRATING BIRTHDAY.
Why do we cook for the people who have more than us? We host birthday and invite high personal, our office boss, friends of high class e.t.c. The prophet pbuh explained those who need our charity.
Narrated Ata ibn Yasar: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Sadaqah may not be given to rich man, with the exception of five classes: One who fights in Allah's path, or who collects it, or a debtor, or a man who buys it with his money, or a man who has a poor neighbour who has been given sadaqah and gives a present to the rich man.
(Sunan Abi Dawud #1635)
2|215|They ask you (O Muhammad SAW) what they should spend. Say: Whatever you spend of good must be for parents and kindred and orphans and Al-Masakin (the poor) and the wayfarers, and whatever you do of good deeds, truly, Allah knows it well.
Insha Allah we shall explain some of the words in the verse.
Spend: Subhanallah! This is the utmost aspect of Makhrooh in hosting birthday. Some people go at lent by hosting birthday on water, spending money lavishly yet, their effort is not reward. Allah wants us to spend in his cause and ward us for that. We can spend our wealth, health and children in attaining the post of Muslim. A man may spend on his children to acquire western education but forget the children's deen. You are fun of packaging to school parsles, for your children birthday but such children Ustaz who teach them Quran memorisation complains of his salary.
Parent : many of us who host birthday, our parent could not count when was it the last day they drink milk, way chicken, jollof and fried rice but we host birthday in claiming we are doing sadaqah.
After the death of such parent what amaze me is the emulation of the Kufar some so call Muslims of today have also felt into. That is the ideal of putting deceased in a casket, some people will beat bandiri and they claim zikru. Very soon they will join them in throwing Muslim decease who head will knock casket, crying without no one hears except the other creatures excluding man and jinns.
Kindred And Orphans:
What we understand by charity is to give from what we have to the needies. It is gift that one can give someone who either need it or not.
If Truely we host birthday and host menu menu I think it would be better to take the whole package and give in either cash or raw food to the motherless babies home. Many people attend birthday who left at home food that is more sufficient even more than what the host has.
The question is, What about the ones who are hungry? Allahu Akbar! This is the reason we have to donate our charity to the Leader of Muslim community because many people can open up their problem to them which might be hard for them to discuss with any other person. The Poor, Wayfarer, and rest also fall under the category of people whom when we give our charity to the Muslim community leader, they will also have access in sharing from it.
Benefit Of Hosting Birthday.
Provision of Food.
Circulation of money due to transaction involve.
Demerits.
It is not Islamic.
Waste Of time.
Debt Involvement.
It encourages fornication.
It encourages obscenity (picture, singing and dancing, e.t.c.)
It demoralise Islamic teachings and promote western culture.
Solution:
Every parent must teach their children the perspective of Islam on birthday and practise it.
We should stop participating in the marking of birthday not even permit our children to attend.
As well as given them parsles from schools.
Conclusively,
Muslim should know that there is no point in choosing a specific date of birth instead, we give thanks to Allah everyday and time. The prophet pbuh teaches us to give thanks to Almighty Allah as thus :
Narrated Hudhaifa: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to go to bed, he would recite: "Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live)." And when he woke up from his sleep, he would say: "Al-hamdu lil-lahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana; wa ilaihi an-nushur (All the Praises are for Allah Who has made us alive after He made us die (sleep) and unto Him is the Resurrection). "
(Sahih al-Bukhari #6324). This saying is sufficient for Muslim when he sincerely give thanks to Allah.
We implore Allah for make us more steadfast in the Sunnah of the Prophet pbuh and give us clear understanding about the Quran and grant us paradise with ease. Aamin.
Was salam alaykum waramotullahi wabarakatu.
