his is because the innovator believes he is doing something good and therefore sees no need to repent.

When your heart engages in Bid'ah [innovation] Shaitan is more content, is more happy with you than you being engage in a major sin.
WHY?
Because in your HEART you BELIEVE that this BID'AH is the DEEN, is the religion, thus very hard to quit, very hard to leave it !
Because your heart believes that this is the true religion !
When somebody comes to you and say: "Qala Rasool Allah..."
You: "Nope!"
That's because your heart sucked it, he drunked that bid'ah !
