RAMADAN REFLECTIONS on the QUR'AAN: are we deceiving oursleves?

Surely, the hypocrites [try to] deceive Allah while He is the One who leaves them in deception . . . [4:142].

There are several places in the Qur’aan where similar verse are mentioned. For e.g.:

And let not the disbelievers think that Our postponing of their punishment is good for them. We postpone the punishment only so that they may increase in sinfulness. And for them is a disgracing torment. [3:178]

So let not their wealth or their children (i.e., power and influence) amaze you (O Muhammad SAW); in reality Allah’s Plan is to punish them with these things in the life of the this world, and that their souls shall depart (die) while they are disbelievers. [9:55]

This act of deception happens when these people have had more than enough opportunities to accept Islam, but turn away out of arrogance. Thus, by this time, there is sufficient evidence against them to make it abundantly clear that had they lived forever, these people would never have repented.

As for the verse of Surah Aale Imraan (And let not the disbelievers think that Our postponing of their punishment is good for them), this indicates that there are some people continue to evil acts since they are not being punished for their actions (for e.g. for robbing, cheating etc.), either by men such as police, or by Allah (SwT) in the form of diseases, deaths etc. Hence, their sins accumulate, and that they will receive a MORE painful punishment in the Hereafter.

The second verse of Surah At-Taubah (in reality Allah’s Plan is to punish them with these things) sheds further light on this topic. Allah (SwT) deceives these disbelievers by turning the very things for which they sold their Hereafter, into sources of punishments for them.

How? Consider a multimillionaire businessman. He is a kaafir, and he cheats others in his business. However, although Allah (SwT) grants him a huge bank balance, He devoids him of any blessings and instead, fills his life with anxiety, fear of poverty, insatiable greed etc., such that he cannot sleep peacefully at night because he is so worried about his business.‎
