ذكر ابن القيم -رحمه الله- أن أمير المؤمنين ﻋﻤﺮ ﺑﻦ ﺍﻟﺨﻄﺎﺏ - ﺭﺿﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ- قال:
"إﻥ ﺍﻟﺮﺟﻞ ﻟﻴﺨﺮﺝ ﻣﻦ ﻣﻨﺰﻟﻪ ﻭﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﺬﻧﻮﺏ ﻣﺜﻞ ﺟﺒﺎﻝ ﺗﻬﺎﻣﺔ، ﻓﺈﺫﺍ ﺳﻤﻊ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﺧﺎﻑ ﻭﺭﺟﻊ ﻭﺗﺎﺏ، ﻓﺎﻧﺼﺮﻑ إﻟﻰ ﻣﻨﺰﻟﻪ ﻭﻟﻴﺲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺫﻧﺐ، ﻓﻼ ﺗﻔﺎﺭﻗﻮﺍ ﻣﺠﺎﻟﺲ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎﺀ".

Ibnul Qayyim, رحمه الله, mentioned:
Leader of the believers 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab, رضي الله عنه, said:
"Indeed a man will leave his home and his sins are like the mountains of Tihaamah; and when he hears knowledge, he fears [Allaah], returns and repents [to him]. Thus, he returns to his home whilst having no sins. So, do not separate from the gatherings of the scholars."
