Could the Teabags, You Use, Are Toxic????

Could the Teabags, You Use, Are Toxic????
Yes, TEA BAGS are TOXIC!!!!!
If you are a keen tea drinker, you must have seen those nifty pyramid-like silk or mesh tea bags. This contains loose tea leaves inside, which release flavor when steeped in boiling water. Well, did you also know that those tea bags are made up of plastic that when exposed to heat can release toxic chemicals?!!!
While on the other hand, paper tea bags also pose threat as they are coated with carcinogenic compound! If this hasn’t raised your ears then let me give you a detailed view of the both types of tea bags!!!!
Okay, the first one to discuss is “Plastic Tea Bags:”
Did you know that the plastic teabags are made up of different types of plastic---polypropylene, thermoplastic, PVC, viscose rayon---but the most common are food grade polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or nylon.
PET and nylon are considered two of the safest plastics as they have very high melting points; which mean it is highly unlikely for the plastic chemicals to leach out of the tea bag into your tea.
This means we are safe.
Well, that’s not the case.
These bags contain “glass transition” temperature (Tg). Now you may wonder what is Tg??? Well, Tg is the temperature at which the molecules of a certain materials like polymers, begin to decompose….and did you know that the Tg is always less than the melting point??? BUMMER!!! That means no holding back in boiling water.
Also, in “The Atlantic,” Dr. Ray Fernando, director and professor of coating and polymers at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, states that the answer is “AN AFFIRMATIVE, FOR THE POLYMERS TO LEACH OUT TOXINS IN THE TRANSITION STATE.”
For if now, the conservative watchdogs say NOTHING about the safety of Tea Bags!!!!
Neither the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice nor the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued any statement in support of the potential toxicity of tea bags.
However, I recommend you to avoid these nukes: mesh or silk toxic tea bags altogether.
Now coming down to our SECOND TYPE of Tea Bags, the “Paper Tea Bags:”
Did you know that paper tea bags are treated with a compound known as epichlorohydrin, which gives out epoxy resins and behaves as a pesticide? According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) epichlorohydrin is a poetential carcinogen, that is known to weaken immune function, impair fertility and cause cancer in animals. And it’s not just the TEABAGS!! Water filters, sausage casings and coffee filters are all treated with this compound.
I recommend you to call your local manufacturer of your favorite tea brand, and confirm about the fact whether it’s coated with epichlorohydrin??? If yes, then avoid completely!!!! And it’s even better to trade in your bagged tea for some loose variety.
