We often hear stories of women resorting to prostitution, etc. to feed their children. It happens with most women who are widow or divorcee.
One of the main reasons behind this is that no one is there to look after them. No one to re-marry them. All men want to marry unmarried young women.

Islam has an answer: Polygamy
We, Muslims should not oppose this sunnah followed by our beloved Prophet(pbuh) and his companions.
There is no shame in following the sunnah. Let the society say what it wants to say, we will follow the sunnah. If Allah is pleased with us, that is sufficient.
If a married Muslim man decides to take a widow/divorcee as his second wife, his first wife must not oppose but rather support him and his second wife.
