Fasting in the month of the Sha’ban:
عن أم سلمة عن النبي صلی الله عليه وسلم أنه لم يکن يصوم من السنة شهرا تاما إلا شعبان يصله برمضان
►It was reported from Abu Salamah, from Umm Salamah, from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) never would fast a complete month out of the year except Sha’ban, connecting it to Ramadan.
حضرت ام سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سال کے کسی مہینہ میں پورے مہینہ کے روزے نہیں رکھتے تھے سوائے شعبان کے کہ اس کو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم رمضان سے ملا دیتے تھے۔

A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that “Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) used to fast till one would say that he would never stop fasting, and he would abandon fasting till one would say that he would never fast. I never saw Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) fasting for a whole month except the month of Ramadan, and did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban.” [Bukhari]
We also know that the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed for Sha’ban to be blessed and connected it to Ramadan thus informing us of an inextricable link between the two. He (peace be upon him) would supplicate, "O Allah, make the months of Rajab and Sha'ban blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadan (i.e. prolong our life up to Ramadan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings)."
